Russian and American students discuss their summer trip

In late August a group of Russian and American students (Institute of Architecture and Civil Construction, Siberian Federal University; College of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Washington) traveled throughout Russia to study local architecture and design.

The students and their teachers visited Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Moscow and Saint Petersburg. One of the trip’s advantages was visiting Siberian architectural workshops and design companies which allowed the students to receive hands-on experience of urban construction in Siberia.

In addition, the students and their teachers had an opportunity to walk around old Russian cities (Kazan, Moscow, Saint Petersburg) to study historic buildings and various features of their architectural design. During the tour, Dr Campbell, Assistant Professor from the University of Washington, gave lectures on urban design.

Russian and American students significantly benefited from the trip. M.K. Taylor, a graduate student from the University of Washington, will study at Siberian Federal University during her term abroad, and Russian students have started a Graduate Student Club to discuss architecture and design.
