SibFU Discusses Cooperation with Switzerland

On 9 September 2021, a Swiss delegation headed by Kristina Marty Lang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to the Russian Federation, paid a working visit to Siberian Federal University. The parties discussed the enhancement of cooperation and academic mobility within the recently signed agreement between the two countries.

Maksim Rumiantsev, SibFU rector, opened the meeting and emphasized that though our university does not have extensive ties with Swiss colleagues so far, the single cooperation events have formed unique and precious relations.

“We are working on the cooperation programs in International Law and Climate Agenda together with Swiss Academy of International Law and Swiss Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape respectively. In addition, Swiss colleagues are regular participants of international linguistic conferences. Undoubtedly, we are interested in expanding our relations both in the field of education and joint research projects,” noted Maksim Rumiantsev.

The delegation to Krasnoyarsk Territory consisted of representatives of Swiss business working in the fields of engineering, industry, transport and logistics services, chemistry and petrochemistry, oil and gas production, electrical equipment and industrial automation systems, innovative medicine and diagnostic tools. They manifested their interest in cooperation with our region.

“I believe that the main innovations are being introduced in the small business. In Switzerland, mainly small and medium companies cooperate with our universities. During the previous meeting with the regional government, we discussed the cooperation in education. The Swiss companies that arrived in Krasnoyarsk with a business mission expressed their readiness to take students for internships,” shared Ms Marty Lang. “Russia is on the priority list of the interstate relations to enhance. Recently we signed a framework agreement on cooperation in science and technology. It concerned joint researches on climate change and international law. One of the main points was cooperation with Swiss Federal Research Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape. Besides, every year our country chooses 25 fellows from Russia. In our opinion, the number of young scientists and graduate students from the regional universities selected for the mobility programs should be increased.”

Meanwhile, Krasnoyarsk Territory hosts several cultural events with the participation of the Swiss side within the framework of the Asia-Siberia-Europe festival and the Swiss cinema festival.
